Link Building's Cult Of Reciprocity

A big part of my professional life is spent teaching and training corporate clients how to become self sufficient at in-house link building and content publicity. Those readers here who have heard me speak at conferences may remember how strongly I have stated my position that to be effective over the long term, you must take as much control as possible over your link building activities, because outsourcing 100% of your link building and content publicity will not work. Why? Because no third party will ever be able to devote the needed passion and hours and creativity to unearthing the best possible link building and publicity opportunities that are available for your specific site than... YOU.

Since I spend a good part of every week developing and presenting custom training sessions, one part of that training is asking for feedback about topics to be covered during the session.

Computer virus infections, reported by 38 percent of respondents, held steady since last year, which Consumer Reports considers to be a positive sign given the increasing sophistication of virus attacks. Thirty-four percent of respondents' computers succumbed to spyware in the past six months.

Microsoft vs. Google: Street Photography Rigs Compared
Gizmodo, in something of a tongue-in-cheek post, compares the cars and cameras Google is using to capture its StreetView imagery with those being used by Microsoft for what has been known as StreetSide. StreetSide is a Live Local product that predated Google's StreetView but has been limited to San Francisco... Google Maps Bulk Upload Spam?
First Case of Large Scale Abuse at Google Maps? from Mike Blumenthal reports cases of companies using the Google Maps business location bulk upload feature to potentially spam the local vertical. I am not going to list out the reported violations here, because Mike Blumenthal did so in his blog...
