Apple aims to stay atop tablet mountain
Apple has already sold 100 million iPads and the rollout this week of the iPad
Mini will only add fuel to that fire, says columnist Ryan Faas.
Top Apple iOS and retail executives to leave company
Two of Apple's top executives are leaving the company: Scott Forstall, who has
overseen the iOS platform that runs the iPhone and iPad, will leave Apple next
year, and John Browett, senior vice president of retail, is leaving sooner,
Apple said Monday.
Apple sells 27 million iPhones but misses profit forecast
Apple sold 27 million iPhones and 14 million iPads in the last quarter of 2012,
swelling its revenue by 27 percent, but its profits fell short of what analysts
had been expecting.
Apple: No new iMacs for you
Although Apple on Tuesday unveiled redesigned iMac desktop computers, it has
none to sell, nor is it taking pre-orders for the slimmer, higher-priced
iPad Mini stock dwindles, supplies to remain tight
Apple kick-started pre-orders of the iPad Mini early today, and within hours,
sold out the white model in all three Wi-Fi configurations.
Apple adds Retina to 13-in. MacBook Pro, makes iMac customers wait
Along with the long-rumored iPad Mini, Apple yesterday also refreshed its two
best-selling Macs, the 13-in. MacBook Pro and the iMac.
iPhone sales boom but iPad disappoints Wall Street
Apple on Thursday announced record revenue on the back of booming iPhone sales,
but for the second quarter in a row iPad sales came up short of Wall Street's
iPhone jailbreaking still legal in US, but don't meddle with an iPad
Modifying Apple's iPhone software to install applications not approved by Apple
will still be legal under new exemptions to take effect on Sunday in the U.S.,
but illegal for an iPad and other tablets.
iPad mini first look: Tiny, light but not perfect
The iPad mini doesn't arrive in stores until November 2, but we got to spend
some time with one on Tuesday after Apple's media event at the California
Theater in San Jose. Our conclusion: Yes, it's a small iPad--but there's more
(and less) to it than that. Here are our hands-on impressions.

Samsung does not infringe on Apple's multitouch patent, Dutch court rules
Samsung's Galaxy devices don't infringe on an Apple multitouch patent that
describes technology that prevents smartphone users from pushing two on-screen
buttons at the same time, the Court of the Hague ruled on Wednesday. The
technique used in Android is sufficiently different from Apple's patent, the
The human costs of the iPad Mini: Chemical smells, unpaid overtime, constant work
As Apple prepares to start selling its new iPad Mini, workers at a Chinese
factory that manufactures the product have been enduring chemical fumes, 12-hour
work shifts and alleged company mismanagement as they assemble the new device.
Sharon Machlis: Do I want an iPad Mini?
The Mini has some compelling features, but I'm still not sure I want one. It
depends in part on how its relatively low screen resolution and processor speed
fare in real-world use.
Jonny Evans: Casino royale: Apple, Samsung betting on a post-PC world
Apple and Samsung continue to be locked in conflict, with Samsung winning one
round in the Dutch court while the ITU declares in favor of Apple in another.
The importance of whats at stake cannot be underestimated: the post-PC age is
upon us, and the old guard of PC manufacturers are tottering -- even HP is
worried, refusing to allow its staff to bring their own devices to work in case
they choose non-HP gadgets.
Jonny Evans: Decoding Apples iPad mini news -- a PC for the rest of us
The Apple master plan isnt always clear, but decoding a few moments during
yesterdays iPad and iPad mini launch event gives us a few hints at where the
company is going: at its simplest, the company isnt just fighting to dominate
the tablet market -- it intends to dominate the future PC market, too.
Preston Gralla: Needed: A 7-inch Microsoft Surface or other 7-inch Windows RT tablet to compete with the iPad mini
As Microsoft prepares to unleash a Windows 8 and Windows RT tablet assault,
there's one thing notably missing: a 7-inch RT tablet to compete with the
just-announced iPad mini and slews of 7-inch Android tablets. Without that
missing piece, it will be hard for Microsoft gain a big tablet market share.
Richi Jennings: As iPad mini pre-orders start, sales fell 18%
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) admits iPad sales fell by almost 18% quarter-on-quarter.
That may explain why its profits were less than expected. Nevertheless, iPad
mini pre-orders "sold out" of the initial release (whatever that means), as
pundits predict the pricey pomaceousnessss will prevail. In IT Blogwatch,
bloggers discuss the 7- or 8-inch BYOD market.
Jonny Evans: Pride: Apple's biggest weakness gives Amazon Kindle easy fire in the iPad mini war
Amazon is taking the fight to Apple , comparing the iPad mini to
the Kindle Fire HD and claiming to offer a superior product. The move reflects
the critical nature of the post-PC battle to stake a claim in the future of IT.
JR Raphael: iPad Mini vs. Nexus 7: Don't sound the death gong yet
Apple may be painting the iPad Mini as the death-blow to Google's Nexus 7, but
outside of the company's magical force field, its grandiose claims don't hold
Jonny Evans: iOS chief Scott Forstall out, Jony Ive to lead future Apple user interface design
Apple's executive reshuffle is an expression of one years work by Tim Cook to
identify those who can help the company forward, to ensure focus isnt on
internal politics, but on the main mission of the company: Everything we do at
Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world.

analysts, 'mystifying' by others, even as they remained skeptical that it's low
enough to make inroads on the dominant player, Apple's iPad. What do you think
-- is Microsoft's Surface tablet pricing competitive with the iPad?
