Beyond Rust

Now that global warming's working out so well for us, the next myth we'd
like to bust is our rust belt image. From Tallis Scholars at Oberlin, to
a fashion destination in Amherst, to an outdoor festival smack in the
middle of winter, we're obviously comfortable with our eclecticism and
excellent climate.

And what does it say that a humble Midwestern burg is happily serving up
Mardi Gras at a local pub, bluegass in a Lakewood church, a reggae fest
to benefit the Free Clinic, and a Brazilian Carnival with authentic
Sambistas, all without losing it's own ethnic street cred. Firing on all
cylinders, maybe. But rusty? Hardly. --Thomas Mulready

Rust Belt Mardi Gras

Cats on Holiday's iconic party finds new digs

Mardi Gras is normally a time for celebration and indulgence; however,
this year local roots-based, swamp pop band Cats on Holiday is adding a
bittersweet emotion into the mix. For years the eclectic quintet has
celebrated Fat Tuesday at Bourbon Street's Cleveland outpost Fat Fish
Blue.

But this year the uniquely Rust Belt party on Tue 2/21 happens in a new
spot... Read more from John Benson here

Candidates Answer Cool Cleveland's Questions
http://t.pm0.net/s/c?6i.m6k1.150.p8c3.3nvt
Marcy Kaptur, Dennis Kucinich & Graham Veysey Respond

Super Tuesday, March 6, 2012, will be an important election for Ohio and
the country. Not only will Cuyahoga County be electing a new Prosecutor
(see Cool Cleveland's questions to Prosecutor candidates here
http://t.pm0.net/s/c?6i.m6k1.151.p1e6.3nvt
), but they will also be electing a member to the House of
Representatives from the newly created 9th Congressional District, which
stretches along Lake Erie from Toledo to Cleveland. Because the new
district contains heavily Democratic voters, the primary on March 6 will
most likely determine who is elected in November.

Three candidates are in the race: Representative Marcy Kaptur,
Representative Dennis Kucinich, and Graham Veysey. All three have been
invited to answer a few questions from Cool Cleveland:

Question A: Observers have noted that all three candidates for the new
9th District share many positions and stands on issues. What
differentiates you from your two opponents?

Question B: If elected to serve the new 9th District, what are three
most important issues you would first pursue.
